A doleful poem
Posted January 17, 2018
on:
His flute’s cheerless symphony
Is heart piercing melancholy!
I feel as if flowers forgot to glow
Rivers forgot to flow
Breeze forgot to blow
The evening! Sensed its rhythm
And I; like a pearl in the shell
Remained silent and still
Spring breeze is filled with flowers’ fragrance
Come love; let garden carry on its business
O friends! The birdcage is in plight
Ask the gentle wind to be a delight
Request the Lord to cherish my beloved
To speak of, and relish my beloved
Wish the dawn emerges from thy leer
And the dusk emits fragrance of thy hair
The heart isn’t affluent, but agony is bighearted
The dreary still be there to cheer you as bighearted
What anguish we went through is thereafter
Sundering night and tears adorn thy hereafter
I couldn’t resist my fervor in thy presence, love
I tied up shirt in a knot; tore collar to threads, love
No place fascinated Faiz on his way
Going away from his beloved’s home
To the gallows way

Gulon mein rang bhare baad-e-naubahaar chale
Chale bhi aao ke gulshan ka kaarobaar chale
Qafas udaas hai yaaro sabaa se kuchh to kaho
Kahin to bahr-e-khudaa aaj zikr-e-yaar chale
Kabhi to subah tere kunj-e-lab se ho aaghaaz
Kabhi to shab sar-e-kaakul se mushkbaar chale
Bara hai dard ka rishta yeh dil gharib sahi
Tumhare naam pe aaenge ghamguzaar chale
Jo hum pe guzri so guzri magar shab-e-hijraan
Hamaare ashk teri aaqibat sanwaar chale
Huzoor-e-yaar hui daftar-e-junoon ki talab
Girah mein leke girebaan ka taat taar chale
Maqaam Faiz koi raah mein jacha hi nahin
Jo ku-e-yaar se nikle to su-e-daar chale

Lively mustard blossoming in the field so
Mango buds spring up, other flowers too
The nightingale chants bough to bough
Maiden engaged beautify self though
Gardener girls bring fragrance flowers
Everyone in hand lively flowers
At Nizamuddind’s door lay the flowers
He promised to come in love though
It has been years waiting for him
Maiden is busy beautifying self though
I’m fragrance—

Don’t stop me to spread around, I’m fragrance
Don’t try collect me, if lost around in ambiance
I shudder whenever I think about, in aloofness
My expressions may not unveil your appellation
Just as my keen dreams shattered heartlessly
No other would ever broke like me heartlessly
I fear the day when it’s banned and restricted
To keep flowers in books in one’s remembrance
He never passes through this pathway since long
Why to peep through the door to see his glimpse
No sound, no sign, no word, nothing is perceived
My heart’s forlorn and lonely; anyone’s celebrated
Wished to bring you and flower face to face
Nervy Nightingale and I would talk face to face
It’s acceptable no interpreter was available to us
What could we ask the stranger to explain to us?
The sun and the moon are wanderers like me
They are also in search of their dear one, as me
Had they ever seen your long silky hair locks
They’d wished to remain entangled in thy locks
If my beloved isn’t coming then death may come
How long could I hold my heart for her to come?
Don’t ask me of the regressing world Aatish
Wished passion to drizzle like the rainstorm

She floated on the pool of my eyes
Never dived into love’s deep ocean
If I go home early once in blue moon
Not as true, they will be taken aback
From day one I crave of my destination
Never bothered to notice any landmark
Believed my friends and their words
Overlooked dagger hidden in flowers
As an heir I got hold of these flowers
But you’ve not see my bed of thorns
My beloved takes me a hard stone
She hasn’t ever laid a hand on me
No one can ever sense my distress
Who never saw anguish in my eyes?
……………………………..
Aankhon mein rahaa dil mein utarkar nahin dekha
Kishti ke musafir ne samandar nahin dekha
Bewaqt agar jaunga sab chonk padenge
Aankon ne kabhi meel ka patthar nahin dekha
Ye phool mujhe koi wirasat mein mile hein
Tumne mira kanton bhara bistar nahin dekha
Patthar mujhe kahta hai mira chahne wala
Main mom hun usne mujhe chhookar nahin dekha

Thinking of thee—Love!
What is love——-?
To be lost in the ocean of chances
To neglect all for your soggy eyes;
Sometimes go and share with stars
About heart’s feelings or flowers,
Either squander silently all day
or be asleep in a meaningless way;
At times shed tears, at times veil them,
I evoke all, being lost on the way at dusk
What is love—–?
Poison, energizer, shadow, may be
Shadow, which often shadowed me;
Compels me to speak his language
Forget self, and choose crazy way;
What is love—-?
Be faithful to words, sip death’s poison,
Pat thy heart’s string with pure simplicity
What is love—-?
Maybe to locate him on the tracks,
Worship again, whom cast off before;
Just feel often, that we have left
Far behind, the destiny of madness;
Broken the bond amid flora and fauna,
Through clouds Love will shower again
Linking green shoot erupts in heart again;
Will feel free of your promising assurance,
Love will again return to your soggy eyes

Am not scared of the thorns but, of flowers
The words that pinch my heart; I’m scared of
Ego isn’t my dilemma, I cherish one and all
All dear ones having duplicity; I’m scared of
I don’t like sleeping any more in fact now
Daunting dreams that are weird; I’m scared of
I’m concerned for others; I lend a hand to them
Relations if deceptive and sham; I’m scared of
I’m a believer of Allah; He’s who I’m scared of
Those who are not scared of Him; I’m scared of

With sundown comes your remembrance
Gentle breeze enhances entire ambiance
My heart sinks and beats in thy remembrance
With sun’s setting, evening overcomes ambiance
When the daylight and the evening both embrace
The light wind is enchanted of flowers’ fragrance
The entire city is wrapped up in cavernous trance
My dreams my sleeping is all in your entrance
The windows’ light diffused away the radiance
My conversant was simply my aloneness

Violet flowers fascinated you,
I wanted to bring violets flowers for you
No matter warm wintry days, or
elevating spring mornings,
soggy nights or freezing conditions,
Wishing to present you violet flowers
whenever meeting you,
But alas!
The violets will never blossom again,
In such a depressing environment
All the spring colors discolored,
The awe-inspiring nights are doomed.
Bygone are bright wintry days now
All roads obscured in deep snow
Tell me how to bring your favorite violets
How to come and see you, my beloved?
