Derozio (1807-31) was the father of Indian English poetry. He was half Indian, half Portuguese. But as a teacher of English at Hindu College, Calcutta, since 1928, he inspired a number of young Indians with a love of the English language and literature.
Henry Louis Vivian Derozio died young. He left some impressive poetry behind him like Chorus of Brahamins and song of the Hindustan Minstrel. His love of social reform and free thinking were taken up by some of his disciples.
As far as the contribution of Sindh towards English poetry is concerned, it possesses an amazing history.
It is matter of fact that progress and development of English literature in Sindh has remained untouched topic for the researchers. Nothing has been said about the first English poet of Sindh and his/her poetry. I am of opinion that “A SONG OF THE 22nd REGIMENT” is the first ever English poetry that took birth in Sindh. Nothing is known about the poet, perhaps he was witness to the fall of Meanee. This song appeared in “Sind Gazette” in its issue of 14th February 1886. This song has been dedicated to Napier, the invader of Sindh. Let us reproduce the song here:
A SONG OF THE 22nd Regt.
I
You may talk of Colin Campbell
Or of Outram for Rose;
(Not such duffers either in the Mutinee)
You may talk O’ Warren Hastin
But you breath you’ll all be wastin’
Charley Napier is the boy for me!
Oh! Charley Napier is my darling!
My darling! My darling!
You may talk o’ Warren Hastin’
But your breath you’ll all be wastin’
For it’s Charley is the boy for me!
II
You may talk o’ Balachava,
Waterloo or Inkerman,
But I’ll trouble you a finer sight to see,
When across the sandy nullah
Swept the twenty-second colour,
Oh! Meanee was the day for me!
For Charley Napier is my darling!
My darling! My darling!
As we swep’ across the nullah,
Queen’s and Regimental colour,
Oh! It’s Charley was the boy for we!
III
You may hear how Buonaparte,
Knocked the Russians into fits;
Or how Nelson smashed him up upon the sea!
But old Beloochee lion
To the Desert he sent fly in!
Sure it’s Napier is the Gineral for me.
Oh! Charley Napier is my darling!
My darling! My darling!
When the old Beloochee lion
To the Desert he sent fly in!
Sure it’s Napier was the Gineral for me!
IV
Have you heard how Patrick Murphy
Lay a dyin’down in scinde?
He’s a Rifleman- but, hang it! from Tralee.
“Keep your heart up, Pat”, says Charley!
“Sure, sir Charles, I’m doing rar’ly,”
with the cholera, lads, as black as black could be
Oh! Charley Napier is my darling!
My darling! My darling!
“Keep your heart up, Pat”, says Charley,
“Sure, sir Charles, it’s like a coach wheel yet! Says he.
V
Now Paddy’s time- expired,
Sure he’s taken his discharge,
And it’s likely, lads, you’ll find him in Tralee,
Diggin’ taties or such trifles.
Since he left the sixtieth Rifles.
Singin’ Charley is the boy for me!
Oh! Charley Napier is my darling!
My darling! My darling!
Diggin’ taties or such trifles
Since he left the sixtieth Rifles,
Singn’ Charley is the boy for me!
VI
So whoever you may fancy,
Get your audience some where else,
Where the Russians or the Russians might agree;
But you’d better so I reckon,
Not come near the Twenty-secon’
For it’s Napier is the boy for we!
Oh! Charley Napier is my darling!
My darling! My darling!
So you’ld better, sir, I reckon,
Not come near the twenty-second’
For it’s Charley is the boy for we!

Anger

on:Anger is the devil, and the devil has been created from the fire.
And fire is extinguished by water, therefore, when any of you feel angry,
you should perform your ablutions.
When anyone of you feel angry, you should sit down if you are standing.
And if your anger passes off with this, well and good.
If not, you should lie down

on:It was September 1965. I had cleared my 10th grade with flying colors. We lived in Peshawar then. Our house was so big that if one called from end the voice could not be heard. The house was in the middle and lawns and fields surrounding it. It was built of mud. Walls were as thick as one meter if I’m not wrong. The rooms were huge with high ceilings. The doors were as big and wide that elephant could easily pass. The ventilator in every room was so big that two men could easily sit there.
I’m not at all exaggerating. It is said that Prime Minister of India Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru also lived there before partition of India, Pakistan. My brother had bought that house. And after he sold it the Excavators found many items of ancient time. Peshawar is one of the oldest cities of the world.
My brother was in Air Force. His family was in Karachi then. I lived there with my mother.
The war was going on between born rivals, India and Pakistan. Lahore was most raided city. So a family of 11 members came to Peshawar to run away from death. They had come to stay with their relatives. That bungalow was as big as ours, just across the road. Two families lived in that house. One was Air Force officer Squadron Leader, Musa and his family and the civilian family.
One day my brother called me from Rawal Pindi as he was on war duty. He asked me to come immediately there with mother. We did the same. My brother always said that in war, dusk and dawn time and full moon night is best to raid and bombard. It was full moon that night.
The airport was not far from our house. We lived on Mall Road. India bombed the airport but missed its target so the bomb hit that house where the family had come all the way from Lahore to escape death.
All members of that house died except one mentally retarded brother of theirs. But surprisingly everything was saved like furniture and all household things. But Musa’s family survived as they ran to trenches hearing the alarming siren. Surprisingly every bit of their household broke smashed and finished, but their lives were safe. As they ran without slippers and in their sleeping dresses so the neighbors provided them with everything. But the unfortunate family couldn’t save their life from death.
One should not fear death. It is fact of life and every breathing soul has to pass away
Family Planning

Islam does not oppose family planning at all, rather directs to devise a strategy and planning in this field too like all other fields. God has made a code of conduct for the smooth running of this world. Thus all the works, accordingly get accomplished in two ways.
The first way is beyond the capacity of human beings as in the matters of rains, storms, floods, earthquakes, changing of seasons, and the natural calamities etc.
The second way has the partial involvement of the human being’s will and action. In all of the matters which a human being considers to be in his capacity, God has directed him to undertake them with knowledge, rational thinking, intellect, wisdom and proper strategy.
Childbirth is one of the selective matters where God lets the free will of the human beings exercise. Though a child is born as per the order of God, yet the parents and other human beings are the source for that. It is just as a farmer cultivates his land and grows the crop. The Quran affirms it at so many occasions that the cultivation of land and growing of crop by man is certainly done at the will of God. The farmer is no doubt the source. Thus the same intellect employed by man for the cultivation of his land should be applied while cultivating his generation too. Both these matters have been yoked together in Al-Waqia’ah:
“Behold the semen you emit: did you create it, or did we? (….) Consider the seeds you grow. Is it you that give them growth or we?” (Al-Waqi’ah 56: 63-64)
“(O Prophet) Give good news to my servants, who listen to my words and follow the best interpretation of it
During the time of the Holy Prophet some of his companions used to adopt certain preventive measures for birth control. The Holy Prophet knew it and allowed to continue with that. Thus it can be concluded that all methods for birth control are valid in Islam.
In all such matters where man has free will whatever the decision he makes and whatever the line of action he opts becomes the decision of God, if it is not against the larger interest of the whole of the humankind.
Thus man has to plan for that, otherwise he would not get it enough. Hence one must plan the size of one’s family, the time for the birth of a child and the proper care of every child. This is what we call family planning.
He must take proper care of the health of this wife. He must plan for a new child when his wife is able to give birth to a child in all respects. He has to look after her during her pregnancy. He must give proper respite between the births of two children. He can only be called a wise and a responsible husband if he Thus man continues proceeding on the highway of knowledge, rational thinking and science through this way. God has declared this principle in clear terms in the Quran that He never let any man’s Action go waste

If we remove the first letter ‘T’ from terrorist then remains ‘error’
Error represents, mistake, fear, fault, blunder, slip, miscalculation and terror means almost the same, fright, shock, dread, alarm, panic
Hence a terrorist the end result of all synonyms mentioned above.
Why does anyone become a terrorist????????
The deprived, neglected, unprivileged, discarded, disowned, hungry, addicted absolute meager people uneducated when fail to feed their children and life becomes unbearable they turn to criminal acts. When degree holders fail to get jobs and go home with shattered dreams and chapped lips and burning desire of food they turn to it
When children kidnapped for ransom and brutally handled and forced to be paid a big amount to their dying ill mother or dying hungry family they become suicide bombers. A child is born innocent. No matter which family, religion color or cast he belongs too—– so it’s unkind and hurting to point out blaming any religion or anyone a terrorist. Satan has no religion———-all these wrong doers are not human beings either– —they will be severely punished by the Creator
Do not break heart or insult anyone I beg. If I’m not a terrorist I may be a victim of it. And one thing more I would like to say. Only the poor hungry deprived are not terrorists—–they are being used by the rich and top notches, sitting on the throne and abusing them for their own purposes
I pity the wrong doers. What situation they may be to risk their life to kill so many
They also have families, mother, children, loving wife, and sincere sister caring brother, their pet animals, their hobbies their favorite music, places and all pleases every common man
I wish they are guided they are loved, they are respected to respect and care for their fellow beings to cherish life
There is hence some ERROR that makes terrorist
I don’t know but I have sympathy for the killed and the killers. I look down while walking so I may not step on an ant—-how can one risk his life and kill others———- O’ Lord of the lords, please forgive us and protect us—–ameen amen ameen

Being a humble Muslim I feel my duty to clarify to the best of my knowledge, the confusion and misconception about Islam in other religions and societies.
I am not very religious or a practicing Muslim or scholar. Neither have I had much knowledge. I apologize before I start to forgive me if any word offends anyone or if I’m misunderstood——
Islam is a religion of peace, nature and natural instinct so does not deny any natural requirement. Hence all Fine Arts are originally applicable in Islam. All that gives beauty, amusement and delight to human life are acceptable.
The Quran says;
“Say; ‘who has forbidden you to wear the nice clothes or to eat the good things which Allah bestowed upon his servants?” ‘SAY; “these are for the faithful in the life of this world, (though shared by others)” but they shall be theirs alone on the Day of Resurrection…Thus We plain Our revelations to men of understanding”
(Al-A’raf 7: 32)
There are just two limitations:
First, there should not be violation of any religious order. For instance there should be no idolatry and vulgarity reflected through their art work in any form
Second, everything must be in moderation. It is not approved by Islam, for a person to be so much engrossed in some of the fine arts as to ignore his family, his social duties and even God.
It is but baseless assumption to assume that image of any living thing is forbidden in Islam. In fact every image drawn by hand, shot by the camera or used for cinema or television is permissible if not reflecting idolatry and gibbering obscenity.
Since the Quran is the justice for us, and the basis for everything valid or invalid is laid down here, it would have been clearly mentioned if illustration is prohibited
Note: Family planning and Slavery is to come soon J
The Opening

on:The Opening
In the name of Allah, The Infinitely Merciful and Eternally Compassionate.
Praise belongs to God, The Lord of beings.
The infinitely Compassionate.
The Master of the day of the Day of Reckoning.
Thee only we serve.
to Thee only we pray for succor.
Guide us in the straight path.
The path of those whom Thou hast Blessed
Not of those against whom
Thou art wrathful, nor of
those who are astray
This is the finest prayer of all times. In seven short lines the entire span of human existence and experience, individual as well as collective, has been covered. The first two lines give impression to man’s total submission to his Lord and contain his homage to Him. The third is a line which states man’s relationship with God-the Master of Doom’s Day-to Whom he shall be answerable for what he did during his lifetime
Whether man will receive God’s Grace for the good he did or be punished will depend on a comparative evaluation by God of all that he left behind-good and bad
The last three lines are a personal prayer of an individual seeking Divine guidance as well as suppliant of all humankind to God to show it the path of truth, nobility, humility and righteousness; the path of earlier people who trod the path to Divine Grace and Blessing- and keep it away from the path of the people who were evil and who received the wrath of the Lord. Grace includes material comfort, spiritual peace and inner harmony.
Hats off to Great teachers

16th of December 2014 will be remembered as The Black Day in the history of Pakistan.
It was a regular routine school day in Peshawar Army Public School. Most of the students were learning First Aid lesson to be given in case of emergency. The Principal Mrs. Tahira Qazi was observing the class. All of a sudden firing was heard. The students were asked to bend down and sit under their chairs. But, within no time 7 terrorists entered and started massacre.
Tahira Qazi. Her personal assistant says she had the opportunity to escape the school but instead chose to stay with the students. As the militants fired shots, she rushed from classroom to classroom, shouting at those inside to lock them in. She consoled, protected, and ushered many students to safety. She even phoned parents to come and collect their children. One source says, “the honorable principal was asked by the terrorists ‘where are the students and why are you hiding them?’ She replied: ‘Talk to me, I am their mother.’ The terrorists replied ‘Ok, you die first, in a miserable way. “Bullets were fired in her head directly.”
Mrs Qazi was known to be one of the most experienced head teachers in the city, running the elite school. In 2012, she was awarded the principal of the year award for “achieving excellence and showing professional exuberance in her duty”. Her family described her as a passionate, dedicated, and committed person- more committed to the students of the school than to her own family.
Tahira Qazi, with her martyrdom, has proved that the death of a martyr is a life of the nation. Her bravery has left the whole village proud yet bereaved. The principal of Army Public School Peshawar Tahira Qazi was laid to rest on Wednesday in her native village. The villagers were mourning the loss of prominent personality of the region.
More horrifying accounts have emerged of another female teacher being burned alive as she courageously stood in the path of the terrorists and told her children to run for their lives.
Afshan Ahmed, 24, confronted the marauding gunmen when they burst into her classroom and told them: ‘You can only kill my students over my dead body.’
The militants doused her with petrol and set her alight, but she still mustered the strength to beckon her pupils to flee.
Hifsa Khush is thought to have been burned alive in front of her pupils after being doused in petrol.
The children who were murdered by the terrorists were not murdered for “going to school” – they were murdered because those were children of family members in the armed forces, the very same armed forces who happen to be fighting these terrorists in War on Terror which began 13 years ago after the attacks in USA.
NO hospital in Pakistan indulges in gender discrimination. The reason why mainly injured boys in the hospitals is probably because all the causalities and injuries are boys! When the boys school gets attacked chances are the majority of the injuries and causalities will be males.
The “Pakistani Taliban” leadership all reside in AFGHANISTAN…the very same AFGHANISTAN, NATO is controlling. This might be a good time to go after them. Western media has done a wonderful job in painting our country something that it is not, and in the times of such unthinkable barbaric attacks, still can’t get off agenda in making us look like the boogeyman.
If one doesn’t know what talking about (which is usually 99% of the time) then don’t bother reporting it until have the facts.
Hero of ZERO

Abu Ja’far Muhammad ibn Musa Al-Khwarizmi about 790 – about 850 |
Abū ʿAbdallāh Muhammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwarizmi, earlier transliterated as Algoritmi or Algaurizin, was a Persian mathematician, astronomer and geographer during the Abbasid Caliphate, a scholar in the House of Wisdom in Baghdad
Al’Khwarizmi was an Islamic mathematician who wrote on Hindu-Arabic numerals and was among the first to use zero as a place holder in positional base notation. The word algorithm derives from his name. His algebra treatise Hisab al-jabr w’al-muqabala gives us the word algebra and can be considered as the first book to be written on algebra. The application of ZERO (0) was the work of Muslim mathematician Al-Khwarizmi and Al-Kindi in 825
Al-Khwarizmi knew that any division by zero is impossible. Eventually he comes to the conclusion that the zero must simply be accepted without being proven. Furthermore, he reports to the Caliph al-Ma’mun that belief in Allah is the same: it cannot be proven using science, but must be accepted on faith in the religion. Al-Khwarizmi was as much a philosopher as he was a mathematician.
Algebra gave Maths a new dimension and development path, away from the Greek concept of mathematics which was essentially based on geometry. Algebra was further developed by numerous Muslim mathematicians and scholars and imported into Europe after 300 years.
Muslims adapted the Indian version of numerals into the modern numbers 1-9 that we use today. Arabic numerals initially came to Europe through Pope Sylvester-1 who studied in Qurtaba, Spain and then returned to Rome.
In addition to math, he writes a compendium on geography that lists the latitude and longitude of 2,400 cities around the world. He also writes books on the astrolabe, sundials, and even the Jewish calendar. For 700 years after his death, European mathematicians cite him in their works, referring to him as “Algorisms”. The modern word for a complex mathematical formula, algorithm is derived from his name. His legacy lives on, even if the modern world that he helped build has all but forgotten of his contributions
