His face was pale like a lizard’s. The checker turned his face away. He felt somewhat nervous and frightened.
The ticket checker saying that he will bring tickets from other compartments went away. The strong man got up and walked towards the door. Many people saw him going.
After some time he came back with some tickets in his hand and asked for the man.
“Where is he?” the checker asked a passenger. The passenger replied. “We saw him going towards the door Sir.” The checker looked for him in the compartment but he wasn’t there. He wasn’t in the toilet either. The train was running at a very high speed so no one could dare get down. The ticket checker searched every bogie but the man was nowhere. The checker came to the compartment where Furqan Mamu had just then finished his stories. All sat dumbfounded.
The ticket checker asking looked around to see if that man was in that compartment. But he failed to see him there too. “Where could that strange man go?”He mumbled to himself. Furqan Mamu politely asked him his problem. The checker replied in nerve-racking tone, “There’s a big problem Sir. I’m surprised where he has perished in such a short span of time.” Then he told Furqan in detail all that happened until then.
“I am sure you didn’t misbehave with that man.” The checker got a little heated up at that statement of Furqan. “Of course not! We know how to deal with people. I’m an educated, trained and experienced man. I have served for years in this profession. I only asked him to show me his ticket like I ask every passenger. It’s my duty.”
He carried on, “when I asked him for his ticket he didn’t have one. When I asked him again he asked me show ticket as he had never seen one before. So when I asked a passenger to show his ticket to him. The passenger didn’t have it. The tickets I had in my pocket also vanished. I have already told you the detail.”
Mamu began: “it’s good you didn’t misbehave with him otherwise————“
“Otherwise what? I didn’t get you Mr. Furqan”
“He was not a human being Sir. He was a jinn. Mamu said very serenely.”
Hearing this from Mamu, all passengers present there appeared horror-struck.
The ticket checker also felt a cold wave in his spine. He barely said trembling—“a jinn!”
The hearsay that there’s a jinn in the train spread like fire in. whoever heard got frightened. Ladies started reciting holy verses from the Quran holding their young ones close to their bosom. Men tried to look composed but in hearts of heart every one’s heart beat faster than before. They in secret doubted that the person next to him could be that jinn.
The police staff in the train searched every compartment carefully to find that man with a skin pale like a lizard but failed to find him.
