It’s not the time to express; stay quiet
O folk! Be quiet, below, and be quiet
Truth is noble yet, venom’s bowl awaits
Are you silly? Don’t be Socrates; be quiet
Truth is a virtue! Better if someone else dies
Are you Mansoor, to be hanged? Be quiet
Lethem says; the sun revolves around the earth
Let the sun spin around; better to be quiet
Suffocation in the party, satirical airs stab
Think, ponder and recollect, but stay quiet
Hot tears, cool sighs! How the heart feels?
Stroll! Don’t unveil conditions, just be quiet
Watch with eyes closed, keep self-poised
Follow Insha ji, watch, muse and! Be quiet

His story is famed that he fell in love with a damsel
That damsel’s beauty was not charming or captivating
Girls were prettier and fairer than flowers in that locale;
She had appeal in her talk and some magic in chanting
The same alluring magic that enlightens lover’s feelings
Being so engrossed in her love he forgot his own being
There lived a nutty nut in a town, and he was called Insha
Neither playful actions nor any lovely chat between them
They only met on the way or chuckled on the telephone
We made fun of their affair; it was a simple pass time only
Whatever they had was veiled, the secret was their solely
One day there was no boat no shore in violent love’s ocean
There lived a nutty nut in a town, and he was called Insha;
One day when in the rainy season, was heavy monsoon rain
Viewers saw them, on the shoreline sitting hand in hand,
From dusk to evening, evening to night drifters went home
What a magical night it was, felt like penning a tale on them
There lived a nutty nut in a town, and he was called Insha
They made many promises and undertaking to live together
The promises they made had no surety but added losses
The maiden deserted him making an excuse of her helplessness
He was heartbroken, underwent depression and helplessness
That day we know how hard it was to make a lover realize
There lived a nutty nut in a town, and he was called Insha
His heart ached; tears ran down his eyes like flowing a river
Bearing grief, never shared with anyone, remained silent
Foolish are the ones who tease him in distress and torment
He made one appeal to his friends and foes; he will hear
To whatever they say about him but not to talk his affair
There lived a nutty nut in a town, and he was called Insha
Not known the actuality, sharing what so heard
What the maiden chanted, was her back fairy-tale
One evening invited her, opened his heart to her
That night committing suicide ended his fairy-tale
It was known from the newspaper about the matter
There lived a nutty nut in a town, he was called Insha
Let me say that to look for the facts, is not at all fair
Let the name and fame of the dame be behind a veil
I can deceit, you can cheat is but doable, let be in veil
This can be my narrative; it may be my personal affair
That dame repented! What’s the use of resenting now?
There lived a nutty nut in a town, and he was called Insha
Is Basti K Ek Kooche Mein,
Ek Insha Naam Ka Dewana,
Ek Naar Pe Jan Ko Haar Gia,
Mash Hoor Hai Us Ka Afsana,
Us Naar Mein Aisa Roop Na Tha,
Jis Roop Se Din Ki Dhoop Dabe,
Is Shehr Mein Kia Kia Goori Hai,
Mehtab Rukhe Gul Naar Labe,
Kuch Bat Thi Us Ki Baton Mein,
Kuch Bhaid Thay Us Ki Chatoon Mein,
Wohi Bhaid K Jot Jagate Hain,
Kisi Chahne Wale K Mann Mein,
Usay Apna Banane Ki Dhun Mein,
Howa Aap Hi Aap Se Begana,
Is Basti K Ek Kooche Mein,
Ek Insha Naam Tha Deewana,
Na Chakchal Khail Jawani K,
Na Pyar Ki Alhar Ghatein Thein,
Bas Raah Mein Un Ka Milna Tha,
Ya Fone Pe Un Ki Batein,
Is Ishq Pe Hum Hanste Thay,
Be Hasil Sa Be Hasil Tha?
Ek Roz Bephirte Sagar Mein,
Na Kashti Thi Na Sahil Tha,
Jo Bat Thi In K Jee Mein Thi,
Jo Bhaid Tha Yaksar Anjana,
Is Basti K Ek Kooche Mein,
Ek Insha Naam Deewana Tha,
Ek Roz Magar Bar Kharut Mein,
Wo Bhadon Thi Ya Sawan Tha,
Deewar Pe Beech Samandar K,
Ye Dekhne Walon Ne Dekha,
Mastana Hath Mein Hath Diye,
Ye Aik Kagar Par Baithe Thay,
Kia Rat Thi Wo Jee Chahta Hai,
Us Rat Pe Likhain Afsana,
Is Basti K Ek Kooche Mein,
Ek Insha Naam Tha Deewana,
Haan Umar Ka Sath Nibhane K Thay,
Ehad Bahut Paiman Bahut,
Wo Jin Pe Bharosa Karne Mein,
Kuch Sood Nahi Nuqsan Bahut,
Wo Naria Keh Kar Door Hoi,
Majboori Sajan Majboori,
Ye Wehshat Se Ranjoor Howe,
Aur Ranjoor Si Ranjoori?
Us Roz Humain Maloom Howa,
Us Shakhs Ka Mushkil Samjhana,
Is Basti K Kooche Mein,
Ek Insha Naam Tha Deewana,
Go Aag Se Chati Jalti Thi,
Go Aankh Se Daria Behta Tha,
Har Aik Se Dukh Nahi Kehta Tha,
Chup Rehta Tha Gham Sehta Tha,
Na Daan Hain Wo Jo Cherte Hain,
Is Aalam Mein Na Daano Ko,
Is Shakhs Se Aik Jawab Mila,
Sab Apno Ko Begano Ko,
Kuch Aur Kaho To Sunta Hon,
Us Baab Mein Kuch Mat Farmana,
Is Basti K Ek Kooche Mein,
Ek Insha Naam Tha Deewana,
Ab Aage Tehqeeq Nahi,
Go Sunte Ko Hum Sunte Thay,
Us Naar Ki Jo Batein Thein,
Us Naar K Jo Qisse Thay,
Ek Sham Jo Us Ko Bulwaya,
Kuch Samjhaya Bechare Ne,
Us Rat Ye Qissa Pak Kia,
Kuch Kha Hi Lia Dukhiare Ne,
Kia Bat Hoi Kis Tor Ho?
Akhbar Se Logon Ne Jana,
Is Basti K Ek Kooche Mein,
Ek INSHA Naam Ka Tha Deewana,
Har Bat Ki Khoj To Theek Nahi,
Tum Hum Ko Kahani Kehne Do,
Us Naar Ka Naam Maqam Hai Kia,
Is Bat Pe Parda Rehne Do,
Hum Se Bhi To Soda Mumkin Hai,
Tum Se Bhi Jafa Ho Sakti Hai,
Ye Apna Bayaan Ho Sakta Hai,
Ye Apni Khata Ho Sakti Hai,
Wo Naar Bhi Aakhir Pachtai,
Kis Kaam Ka Aisa Pachtana?
Is Basti K Ek Kooche Mein,
Ek Insha Naam Ka Tha Deewana…

I traveled to towns to meadows,
With an ache of craving, in heart
To have a dearly loved, a dear one
To have a luminosity or a sheen;
Say once, that you are mine!
When monsoon clouds float
When spring blossoms around
When the moon showers light
When the sun bathe in sunshine
Or the evening enchanting town
Say once, that you are mine!
Loving arms are heartily open
Why damsel down in the dumps
How long we’ll be deceived in love
How long will you seek to peek?
When’ll heart be elated to peek?
Say once, that you are mine!
Why to fret on profit and loss
It’s not a gypsy’s trade to do
Take away all money and riches
You alone are precious for me;
Say once only, that you are mine
