A sahabi ( friend of Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) came to him and complained of of hunger and distress.Just then, Muhammad (p.b.u.h) had nothing in hand or in his home to feed him. He asked his friends if anyone would keep him ass a guest for the night on his (p.b.u.h) behalf. one of his friends agreed willingly to be  the guests host.

He then took that person to his home and instructed his wife; “Look here, this man is guest of Muhammad (p.b.u.h). We will entertain him as best as we can and wont spare anything in doing so” The wife replied; “By Allah! I have got no food in the house, except a very little——something just enough for the children.”

The Ansari or the host said: “You put the children to sleep without feeding them, while I sit with the guest over the small meal. When we start eating, put out the lamp pretending to set it right, so that the guest may not get aware of my not sharing the meal with him. He didn’t partake at all of the food, though his hands and jaws seemed and felt working all right”

This sacrifice  is true and sincere love for others

The scheme worked out as planned. The whole family slept hungry to enable the gust to eat his fill. It was this incident that Almighty revealed the ayah

Many years have passed but its fresh like roses in my mind.

Sabir sahib the bank manager sold his house and shifted to Defense. The house was adjacent to our home. The new people who bought were very civilized and nice people. Two brothers their families lived with their old parents. They would attend every delight and sorrow in the  neighborhood earnestly. The family became like relatives in the neighborhood.

After some time we came to know that the grandmother was not their real grandmother. Actually when the real one passed away , the grandpa felt depressed and lonely. So their children married their grandpa to a nice widow. They lived happily. After some years the grandpa died. Grandma was left to mourn alone. Hence to kill her loneliness they married her to one old widower. Remarrying their grandparents took place three times.

Eventually it was stopped as both grandparents fell ill one after the other and passed away.

Though it sounds unbelievable but we are witness to it. Hats off to the children who felt the sting of loneliness and remarried their grand parents. Every one took great care of them, though they were not real or genuinely related to anyone in the house.

A noble and kind example was set.

Hazrat Suleiman (A.S) was a prophet of Allah. Allah gave him the power to understand languages of all animals, jinns and persons.  His kingdom was the largest of all kingdoms until today. He ruled over all living things, land and sea.

He was a very judicious. He was also very kind and compassionate.

Everyone in his kingdom loved him.

It did not rain for a long time.  So there was no water to drink or food to eat. Animals and plants were dying of hunger. He got very concerned. Hence one day he decided to go with his group of animals and courtiers in search of water.

He crossed rivers, mountains and plains. There was a valley of Nimal where the ants lived.

The Queen Ant was a very diligent and responsible queen. Drought and famine had affected them as well.

She was there with all ants under the blue sky to pray for rain. The Queen Ant prayed to Allah: “O, Allah, You are so kind to us. You give us food to eat and water to drink. There is no rain so no food and no water.  I can’t bear to see my ants dying. Please Allah send rain to make our land fertile. Please forgive us. Amen.”

After she finished her prayers she heard the heavy thumping sound of elephants’ feet on the ground coming from far off. She at once realized that Hazrat Suleiman was coming with his people and animals. After a while they saw dust in the air.

She warned the ants: “Be careful!  Go quickly go into your holes at once.  Hazrat Suleiman is coming. He’s not coming to harm us but how will he know that we live here. You will be killed under heavy hooves and feet of elephants.”

Hazrat Suleiman heard the Queen.

Hazrat Suleiman (A.S) smiled to hear the Queen Ant’s words of concern.

He respected the Queen for taking care of life of her ants.

He said: “A ruler must take care of life and property like the Queen Ant.

Hazrat Suleiman said to his people: “Let’s go back. The ants have done our job. It will rain surely now.”

My mother used to enlighten me with   ethical stories at bed time. Those character building stories have left great impact on me.

Let me share one of those stories with you today 🙂

Long time back, famine broke out in a country.  A rich charitable man distributed loaves of bread to children every day in his region. Every day the children gathered at the rich man’s house to get loaves of bread.

As soon as the servants brought out loaves, they fought among themselves and struggled hard to get them.

But one little orphan girl waited patiently for her turn. But every time she got the smallest loaf last of all.

One day as usual, she got the smallest piece.

She went home and sat in a corner to eat it. As she cut it, her eyes gleamed with joy. She saw a gold coin in it. She went back at once to return it to the rich man.

The rich man was very delighted at her honesty. He gave her not only that coin, but two more gold coins for her honesty and some big loaves as reward of being patient and serene.

May we all learn and practice to be grateful for what we already have and be patient to wish and get our wishes realized, amen!

Moral:

Patience brings its own reward.
