The true story touched my heart so deeply that I felt like sharing
A young Californian mother made the ultimate sacrifice for her newborn daughter when she refused lifesaving treatment for cancer.
Ashley Bridges was 10 months pregnant when she learned of her diagnosis. Doctors suggested her to start chemotherapy treatment immediately. It needed her baby to be terminated.
But Ashley refused to kill her healthy baby just because she was sick.
During her third trimester at eighth month Bridges was told that delaying treatment had allowed the cancer to spread.
“That’s basically when they told me that it was terminal.” She said.
Bridges was told that needed to deliver Paisley immediately so she could start treatment.
Even with multiple rounds of chemotherapy, she was given less than a year to live.
“I felt like I tried so hard to keep Paisley safe and do the minimum (treatment) to keep her healthy. The thought that I’m not going to see her grow up is really hard” a tearful Bridges said.
The 24 years Bridges has one 6 year old son. His exact words were, “If you pass away, I want to come with you” she recalled.
Her family and friends take care of Paisley during day and her fiancé who is in the military takes the night shift. None of them has second guessed her decision. “She’s a real _life superhero to be honest” said Jessica, Bridge’s sister. Bridges too has no regrets. “May be I’m not supposed to be here and Paisley is” Bridges said of Paisley

Cashews are actually a seed despite being popularly known as a nut. These seeds are found on the end of cashew apples in parts of South America closest to the equator. Cashews contain 5 g of protein per ounce and are a source of good fats, making them a healthy snack choice in moderation. However, cashews can also have adverse side effects for those who have allergies or need to avoid magnesium-rich foods. Cashew plant is native to northeast Brazil the Portuguese took it to India. From there it spread throughout Southeast Asia and eventually Africa.
Too much of a good thing can be bad for your health. Unless you are diligent in seeking out unsalted cashews
Cashews actually starve tumors and stop cancer cells from dividing. Studies have also shown that cashews can reduce colon cancer risk. Their high copper content also endows the seed with the power to eliminate free radicals
Cashews are wonderfully cholesterol free and their high antioxidant content helps lower risk of cardiovascular and coronary heart diseases. The magnesium in cashews helps lower blood pressure and helps prevent heart attacks.
Hair and Skin Health
Cashews are rich in the mineral copper. An essential component of many enzymes, copper plays its part in a broad range of processes. One copper-containing enzyme, tyrosinase, converts tyrosine to melanin, which is the pigment that gives hair and skin its color. Without the copper cashews are so abundant in, these enzymes would not be able to do their jobs.
Cashews are particularly rich in magnesium. It’s a well-known fact that calcium is necessary for strong bones, but magnesium is as well. Most of the magnesium in the human body is in our bones. Copper found in cashews is vital for the function of enzymes involved in combining collagen and elastin, providing substance and flexibility in bones and joints.
Good for the Nerves By preventing calcium from rushing into nerve cells and activating them, magnesium keeps our nerves and muscles relaxed.
Magnesium helps weaken the frequency of migrane attacks, loowers blood pressure and helps prevent heart attack.
Data collected on 80,718 women from the Nurses’ Health Study show that women who eat an ounce of nuts each week, like cashews have 25 % lower risk of developing gallstones
People who eat nuts twice a week likely to gain weight than those who hardly ever eat nuts. Cashews are high in GOOD FAT. They are dense in energy and high in dietry fiber.
Flaxseed is the new wonder food.
Recent studies have suggested that flaxseed may have a protective effect against breast cancer, prostate cancer, diabetes, heart disease and colon cancer. At least two of the components in flaxseed seem to contribute, says Kelley C. Fitzpatrick, director of health and nutrition with the Flax Council of Canada.
Flax seed plays three primary roles in nutrition.
First, the seed, powdered or ground is rich in dietary fiber, both soluble and insoluble, making it a useful digestive aid.
Second, it is one of the best sources of, a nutrient with antioxidant properties.
Third, the seed contains a high concentration of omega-3 fatty acids. These fats are termed “essential” because they are necessary for survival yet cannot be produced by the body.
Care needs to be taken with storage, as flaxseeds are an unsaturated fat. Unless they’re stored in a sealed container in a cool place, they can go rotten quickly. Flaxseeds, whether ground or whole, have very high fiber content, so if you’re introducing them into your diet, it’s best to start slowly and increase the levels gradually to avoid cramping, bloating or an excessive laxative effect.
When not to take them
People with irritable bowel syndrome should speak to their doctor before consuming flaxseeds due to their high fiber levels. Those with a seizure disorder should avoid flaxseed supplements as omega-3 supplements may induce seizures. Blood-thinning medications, blood sugar-lowering medications, topical steroids, cholesterol-lowering medications and anti-inflammatory can all be affected by flaxseeds, so speak to your doctor before taking supplements or increasing dietary levels of flaxseeds.
How to eat them
The seeds can be sprinkled on fruit, veggies, cereal, salads and yogurt and also in baking or to bulk out meat dishes. This way one increases omega-3 levels and fiber intake at the same time. Ground seeds are easily digested. Flaxseed oil shouldn’t be used for cooking since it is not stable at high temperatures.
Whole flaxseeds add a nutty flavor and crunchy texture to foods. However Benefits of Flaxseed
The key is that they all contain essential fatty acids.
There are other benefits of flaxseed oil that would apply to both sexes and include:
- Controlling cholesterol
- Improving the health of the bowel
- Removing toxins
- Helping with heart related problems
- Treating minor skin problems and itchiness
Patience has many synonyms like endurance, serenity, tolerance, acceptance, lenience, easiness, stamina etc etc
I know a lady who is resting in eternal peace in heavens above now who had all the qualities in her persona. I feel proud to admit that she was my cousin. She was not my cousin only but very dear to heart too.
She was Allah’s chosen one.
Let me share with you to make you believe my words.
Her name was Mumtaz. She was the only sister of her five brothers. Hence was dear and adored by every member of the family.
She always carried innocent smile on her lips no matter what situation she was in. Her smile was her distinctiveness.
She was whitish having attractive features with black long hair neatly tied in braids. She was middle height. I am writing all these details to enable the reader to visualize her character. She was a shy maiden. She always covered her head with her dupatta being an honest practicing muslima physically and spiritually.
She got married to one of my other cousin. Both husband and wife had very sound relationship. She got same love and respect from her husband like her own family. She gave birth to 3 sons and one daughter.
The eldest son was diagnosed brain tumor when he was just a teen age. Both husband wife got him the best they could from medication to brain surgery from time to time. The boy had to go through many painful and critical phases of his life but the patience was commendable. None of them ever complained. They got their sons married at early age to give their son as much happiness as possible. I salute to the parents of the girl too who knowing the tragic end of the boy gave their daughter’s hand.
Mumtaz Apa developed cancer herself due to the grief seeing her son in agony. She endured cancer with same smile on her lips. Both husband and wife kept it secret of her ailment to them selves. No body knew that she was a cancer patient herself. She greeted the guests with same angelic smile, carried out all her duties without a single word of complaint. Despite all efforts her son died.
She got weaker with every passing day enduring the grief and loss of her son. Nobody knew she carried cancer in her chest.
All her brothers loved her but the eldest one had special feeling of love and admiration for her. He felt very grieved to see her getting so ill so he also got ill. The strange thing about all this is that since the brother could not bear to her die so he breathed his last the same night where as Mumtaz Apa died in the morning. The sky shed tears too on the sad parting of the souls in form of heavy rain that night inKarachiwhere brother died and inIslamabadwhere the great lady passed away bearing the same angelic smile on her face.
Her husband visits her grave very often to pray for his beloved wife. I never experienced such height of patience in my life like my dear cousin’s. May she rest in the highest position of heaven and Allah be pleased with her. Amen
