(Stories of Prophet’s Companions)

Every Prophet has an assistant, and my assistant will be Uthman.”(Hadith)

Uthman’s Election :

When ‘Umar fell under the assassin’s dagger, before he died the people asked him to nominate his successor. ‘Umar appointed a committee consisting of six of the ten companions of the Prophet (peace be on him) about whom the Prophet had said, “They are the people of Heaven” – Ali, Uthman, Abdul Rahman, Sa’ad, Al-Zubayr and Talha – to select the next Caliph from among themselves. He also outlined the procedure to be followed if any differences of opinion should arise. Abdul Rahman withdrew his name. He was then authorized by the committee to nominate the Caliph. After two days of discussion among the candidates and after the opinions of the Muslims in Medina had been ascertained, the choice was finally limited to Uthman and Ali. Abdul Rahman came to the mosque together with other Muslims, and after a brief speech and questioning of the two men, swore allegiance to Uthman. All those present did the same, and Uthman became the third Caliph of Islam in the month of Muharram, 24 A.H.
Uthman’s Life

Uthman bin Affan was born seven years after the Holy Prophet (peace be on him). He belonged to the Omayyad branch of the Quraish tribe. He learned to read and write at an early age, and as a young man became a successful merchant. Even before Islam Uthman had been noted for his truthfulness and integrity. He and Abu Bakr were close friends, and it was Abu Bakr who brought him to Islam when he was thirty-four years of age. Some years later he married the Prophet’s second daughter, Ruqayya. In spite of his wealth and position, his relatives subjected him to torture because he had embraced Islam, and he was forced to emigrate to Abyssinia. Some time later he returned to Mecca but soon migrated to Medina with the other Muslims. In Medina his business again began to flourish and he regained his former prosperity. Uthman’s generosity had no limits. On various occasions he spent a great portion of his wealth for the welfare of the Muslims, for charity and for equipping the Muslim armies. That is why he came to be known as ‘Ghani’ meaning ‘Generous.’

My wishes come as prayer on lips of mine

O Allah! May my life alight as candles shine?

May worlds’ gloom vanish through my being?

May every place glow with my radiant being

May my homeland get esteem through me!

Like the flowers flourish garden with glee

May my life be similar to a moth O Lord!

May I also love insight knowledge, O Lord!

May I be supportive to the poor in need!

To love and care the old and help in need

O Lord! Protect me from immoral deeds

Guide me to follow the way of good deeds

THE NINE ADVICE FOUND IN SURAH AL HUJURAT

Fa Tabayyanu “: Investigate: when you receive an information, lest you harm people out of ignorance.

Fa Aslihu “: Make settlement: between your brothers as believers are brothers.

Wa Aqsitu “: Act justly: whenever there is a dispute try for settlement and act justly among both parties as Allah loves those who act justly.

La Yaskhar “: Don’t ridicule people, perhaps they may be better than you to Allah.

Wa La Talmizu “: Don’t insult one another.

Wa La Tanabazu “: Don’t call each other with offensive nicknames.

Ijtanibu Kathiiran min Aldhan “: Avoid negative assumptions, indeed some of the assumptions are sins.
Wa La Tajassasu “: Don’t spy on each other.

Wa La Yaghtab “: Don’t backbite each other. Its a major sin equivalent to eating your dead brother’s flesh.

Those who you are close to, and cherished

Are the ones fortunate and privileged!

When someone falls in love with anyone

It’s like fatality following that someone

Meeting me? And that too; to meet you!

Is beyond realism; to have met you

Those who bear torture with not a sigh

Are weird men with a heart and no sigh?

In love relations nothing at all is achieved

Merely distress and only sorrows achieved

Who knows the worth and value of Nuh

Nowhere is found a literary being like him

O, my wishful heart I can reach anything I desire

Two steps I take; the destination itself will appear

My yearning heart, I proceed to her party though

Do aware me when the party is at its elevation so

0 divine being! I’m ready to go but do remember

Misguide me the time the destination is close to

You may remember me; you may as well call me

If you come across any obstacle in lane of love

Why seek for love’s look; let it be odium of love

My gloom’s yen! I wish agony gone agony come

I seek an advice about my heart’s wish from you

What should I do when I fall in love with you?

O holy light flash and flush; you guess me Moses

I’m not mount Siena to afire; no issue who comes

Let the cyclone come; ships boatsman will save it

Not likely for coast to float with waves to save it
