Simple was the people;
simple were their homes
large were the courtyards
and fewer were rooms
The people sighed
to see that house
with a wall built
in the to divide the house
How to resolve the past
and existing plight
were mutually shared in the
village pergola site.
Boys walked miles
to their schools
Now the nearby ones
were then far-off schools
If anyone of them got tired
of carrying his satchel
A friend always shared
a load of his satchel
Promises made solemnly
to carry out the promise,
was loyally carried ou
To the beloved
a letter he sent,
A heart through which
an arrow went
Yet, in coyness,
she would see herself absent
Not that she knew what he meant
See how beauty abase
from rich to poor in love
when the lover asked about his history;
he was the one above

سیدھے سادھے لوگ تھے پہلے، گھر بھی سادہ ہوتا تھا
کمرے کم ہوتے تھے اور ، دالان کشادہ ہوتا تھا
دیکھ کے وہ گھر گاؤں والے سوگ منایا کرتے تھے
صحن میں جو دیوار اٹھا کر آدھا آدھا ہوتا تھا
مستقبل اور حال کے آزاروں کے ساتھ نمٹنے کو
چوپالوں میں ماضی کی یادوں کا اعادہ ہوتا تھا
دکھ چاہے جس کا بھی ہو وہ ملک کر بانٹا جاتا تھا
غم تو آج کے جیسے تھے احساس زیادہ ہوتا تھا
لڑکے بالے میلوں پیدل پڑھنے جایا کرتے تھے
پاس ہے جو اسکول وہ پہلے دور افتادہ ہوتا تھا
تھک جاتا کوئی تو مل کر بوجھ کو بانٹا کرتے تھے
دوست نے دوست کا بستہ اپنے سر پر لادا ہوتا تھا
سوچ سمجھ کر ہوتے تھے تب ساتھ نبھانے کے وعدے
لیکن جو کر لیتے تھے وہ وعدہ، وعدہ ہوتا تھا
خط میں دل اور تیر بنا کر منت کرنی پڑتی تھی
یار بہت مشکل سے ملنے پر آمادہ ہوتا تھا
دیکھ حسن کس منصب سے لے آیا عشق فقیری تک
جس سے پوچھا اپنے دور میں وہ شہزادہ ہوتا تھا
