They all helped him get home. Mother requested them to help him to the bed.

The other friend said: “ Aunty, actually Chilli went to the Imam Sahib and complained to him for not giving the evening azan. Chilli told Imam Sahib that he is dying of hunger and thirst.”

Imam Sahib scolded him for his habitual silly talking. Imam sahib in addition told Chilli that there were still six hours for the evening azan.

Chilli hearing of six hours more to wait to eat could not accept and lost his senses.

Mother massaged his foot sole and sprinkled water on his face.

Chilli coming back to consciousness softly asked for water.

Mother with all love in her voice and gestures: “ My sweet heart. You are fasting. Just wait for a little more time. I will provide you with your favorite beverage and delicious eatables.”

Chilli lay awake on the bed grumbling and thinking to him.

Mother had gone to sleep after all day’s disturbance and bothering caused by Chilli.

While lying he thought that he should prepare food for iftari and give pleasure to his angry mother.  So he got up from the bed. Went to the kitchen. He put gram flour in a bowl and added water to make dough. But being stupid as ever he poured too much water.  It turned into a batter of gram flour and not dough. So he put more flour to thicken it. He added some water to it that changed to fluid. Chilli kept on adding water or flour until all the flour that mother had bought for the whole month of Ramzan was finished.

He poured all the cooking oil in the frying pan. Then set fire to wood stove. When he felt the oil was adequately hot he poured the liquid he had made out of flour and water. Hot oil in the pan spilled out and caught fire.

Chilli got scared and tired to run when he entangled with the kitchen cabinet and fell flat on the floor.

Mother came running in fury and when she saw that the kitchen was on fire she yelled for water. Neighbors gathered and tried to put out the fire but in vain.

By the time they put water the kitchen turned into ashes.

Sheikh Chilli was restless, as the time was getting closer to evening azan.

He said: “Imam sahib is not worried now to give azan.  He must be eating himself. Why should he bother if some one is dying of hunger?”

Neighbors offered food to break fast in with the evening hoot and azan.

Mother controlling her temper: “ You better pray to Allah to bless us all. Imam sahib is not going to break the rule for you.”

Chilli: “ Firstly you made excuse of sunshine. Now there’s no sunshine at all. Still you insist that it’s not time yet to eat.”

Mother felt pity on his foolishness and had no answer to convince him.

As soon Chilli heard the first word of azan he started gulping and did not stop until eaten every speck of food and sipped every drop of drinks.

He was so full that he could not move even. Mother helped him to get up.

He was so delighted to eat everything of his choice that he insisted to keep fast the following day too.

But mother had learnt a good lesson so she decisively rejected his wish.

It was the first day of Ramzan, the holy month when all Muslims keep 30 fasts to purify their body and souls by fasting from dawn to sunset by doing only good deeds and praying five times a day.  They learn to practice tolerance, endurance, contributions, respect and care for all.  They do this in order to avoid cheating, telling lies, boasting, being ignoble, disregard poor and be humane to the best they can.

Sheikh Chilli’s mother cooked a variety of dishes for Chilli to eat for full whole day’s fast.

She knew her son could not stay hungry for long so she lay down on the table; milk, bread, beef cutlets, vermicelli, spicy rice and so many other things for Chilli to eat. Chilli was eating as if it was his last time and he would never get another chance to munch through. He was gulping and gobbling up one mouthful after the other asking mother to cook one more paratha, as he will be on starvation all day.

Mother tired of catering so much said angrily: “ Would you let me eat a little too before the time limit. You already have munched through the amount, which is sufficient for a normal man’s one-month diet.”

She further said: “ What is the use of fasting if you are so impatient.”

Chilli: “O, mama, you get heated on such minor things.

Chilli flattering again: “Do not make paratha but promise you will serve me with a beverage.”

Mother said agitatedly: “ for God’s sake Chilli. Stop eating.”  “You will gag and vomiting will spoil your fast.”

In bygone days the facilities of timepiece, electric sirens or loudspeakers were not available so a warning toot indicated that eating time was over.

Chilli flabbergasted: “ O, mama, is the time up? I have not eaten satisfactorily—-and that beverageL.”

Mother: “ Watch out Chilli.  You can’t eat a speck of anything now or you will be losing your fast.”

Chilli: “O, Mama, the people who blow the trumpet actually keep on eating themselves but they only harass others. See it’s so dark outside. Please give me something to drink. I am dying of thirst.”

When he heard the adhan for namaz, only then he believed that time was up for eating.

When he came back from the masjid after morning prayers he found mother reciting the holy Quran. He lay down beside her and after a short while he was in a deep slumber.

He woke up with azaan of midday assuming it was time to break fast.

Chilli requested mother to give him something to munch, as it was time to break fast.

Mother got up in a hurry but when she saw the sunshine she got mad at Chilli.

Mother: “ You fool! There are still lots of time until sunset! I had just gone to sleep and you disturbed me.”

Chilli embarrassed said: “ I know it’s not evening yet, but what should I do. I am feeling so hungry and scorched.”

Agonized mother: “ I reminded you of last year’s fasting and asked you to think before you act. I will never let you fast any more now.”

Chilli felt sorry for nagging and bothering mother so he told mother in a very mild tone: “ Ok, mama, don’t get upset please. I am going to offer namaz in the masjid.”

Mother had just started to make ablution when she heard some noises outside her home.

She opened the door seeing Chilli leaning and his friends supporting him.

Mother was shocked to see her son in such a bad condition.

Mother: “ What’s wrong with my child?”

One of his friends replied that all of a sudden Chilli collapsed in the masjid.

Final note

Let’s close with a word of warning. These suggestions should not replace insulin or any other diabetic drugs prescribed by your doctor. As a person with diabetes, you need a team of health-care professionals and an overall treatment plan. Type  is  will need to take medication for the rest of their lives (or until the arrival of a cure). Many type 2s will need medication as well.

While there are many practical, simple ways to keep your blood sugar down (or keep it from going higher), never turn your back on solid, scientifically proven treatments. You deserve the best care possible.

Lake Baikal in eastern Siberia is the oldest freshwater lake on Earth, and one of the largest and deepest, containing around one-fifth of the world’s freshwater. In winter, it freezes over, and these beautiful transparent, turquoise masses of broken ice appear momentarily in March, caused by the unequal structure, temperature and pressure in the main body of the packed ice.

Dear children, in bygone days, facilities like the media, print media, computer games and other technologies were not there, so parents and grandparents narrated bedtime stories of myth, legend, fable, bravery, morality and humor to children. Such stories played a great role in increasing and retaining vocabulary, developing aesthetic sense, sharpening wit and also helped in the character building of children.

Where as wrestling, horse riding, hunting, fishing, traveling and story telling were a source of entertainment for grown-ups.

Like Sheikh Chilli, Mullah Naseerudin is known for his wit and sense of humor.   Hence he owes many stories in his credit too.

The story you are going to read now is about cleverness and the great sense of humor of Mullah Naseerudin.

Mullah and his neighbor were not on good terms with each other. The reason was simple. His neighbor was short tempered and grumpy where as Mullah   Naseerudin was always up to some mischief and playing pranks here and there.

One day Mullah made a plan.   He set off to the market in good spirits.

He bought some sweets and cookies and strolled towards his neighbor’s home.   He knocked on his neighbor’s door.

Mullah Naseerudin: “Anybody home.”

Neighbor’s wife: “Who is it?”

Mullah Naseerudin: “It’s me Mullah, your neighbor. Is brother Shamsuddin home?”

With frowning and with unpleasant gestures the neighbor came out to see Mullah.

Mullah cheerfully said: “My son graduated his exams with laurels so I have brought you some sweets and cookies to share my delight. I am sure you   have forgotten the past sourness and are pleased with my son’s achievement. ”

The neighbor was much    impressed by Mullah’s modest manners thus invited him for a cup of tea. Mullah respectfully refused making the excuse that he had to distribute sweets among others too.

A few days passed. Nothing noteworthy turned out.

One-day Mullah reached his neighbor’s home again.  His neighbor came out and greeted him warmly.

Mullah: “Brother I have many guests at home. As a custom and a good host I   should serve them food but unfortunately I don’t have a big cooking pot. I have come to ask you for your cauldron.  I will return it to you as soon as my guests leave.”

As Mullah had gained his neighbor’s assurance so his neighbor willingly gave his cauldron to Mullah. Mullah took the cauldron and went   home happily.

Days passed into months but Mullah did not return the cauldron.

When his neighbor reminded him about the cauldron Mullah ignored the topic and started discussing something else.

To return the cauldron at last Mullah went to his neighbor one-day.

Mullah handed the cauldron along. The neighbor said, “Whose pot is this? It is not ours.”

Mullah smiling said: “It is yours brother.”

Neighbor: “but—but I gave you one cauldron only. But this pot—?”

Mullah: “I know you gave me one cauldron only, but your cauldron gave birth to this pot. So it’s your cauldron’s baby and therefore it’s yours.”

Flabbergasted neighbor: “Caldron’s baby?”

Mullah: “Yeah, that’s true. Your cauldron gave birth to this little pot in our home. That’s the reason it took me so long to return it to you.”

Though the   neighbor knew that the small pot was not his, greediness      overcame him so he accepted the cauldron with its baby.

Weeks and weeks passed.  Mullah Naseerudin and Shamsuddin were now good friends. Whenever they met they exchanged smiles with civilized manners.

Mullah had earlier designed a mischievous plan to degrade his neighbor.

So according to his plan he visited his neighbor Shamsuddin again one day.

Mullah humbly requesting: “I am sorry to bother you once again my kind hearted brother.”

Shamsuddin with poise: “What can I do for you brother Mullah.   I’ll be too pleased to help you.”

Mullah conceitedly: “I   have guests again. They will stay for some days. Can I have your cauldron again please?”

Shamsuddin courteously: “Why not Mullah. What are friends for? Some one has rightly said. A friend   in need is a friend indeed. You may very well take the caldron.”

Mullah Naseerudin readily took the caldron as   he had intended before and went home.

Days passed into weeks and the weeks into   months but there seemed no sign of getting back the cauldron.     Once Shamsuddin family needed that cauldron for their own use but they did not ask Mullah for it. They knew that one more baby pot would come. But when a long time passed so Shamsuddin wife insisted him to get back their cauldron.

Shamsuddin alarmed: “I will ask   Mullah today certainly my dear. I am also concerned. It has been so long now. He has not returned our cauldron.”

Shamsuddin came across Mullah Naseerudin on the roadside by chance.

Shamsuddin: “How are you Mullah? Haven’t seen for quite long.”

Mullah with a deep sigh: “What to say brother. I was wanted to visit your house myself but didn’t have the heart to tell you the sad story.” Saying this       Mullah pretended to be in profound regret.

Restless Shamsuddin: “What’s the matter? Do tell me please.”

Mullah weeping: “Your cauldron died   few days back.”

Mullah constantly weeping: “It got ill. I intended to return it to you once   it got well, but oh my dear brother, it died 2 days back.”

Confused Shamsuddin: “Cauldron got ill? But it was nonliving. You can’t fool around with me Mullah. How can nonliving things die?”

Mullah in immense fury: “Fooling you?  You think I’m lying to you? You don’t   believe me?”

Shamsuddin in fury: “Of course you are deceiving me. The caldron was   metallic and a lifeless thing. How could it die?”

Mullah artfully: “Well, well my dear. Just think if the cauldron can give birth why can’t it die? Remember I   gave you a small pot as the cauldron’s baby? And you accepted it. You still have that     pot in your house. Don’t you? So if it could give birth it can die as well.”

Shamsuddin was speechless.   Mullah had once again played his prank on him.

Mullah Naseerudin went home   like a victorious warrior.

Sheikh Chilli was well known for his copious eating.  It’s however more interesting to know that his yen for eating swelled further when he got married.

He ate when he woke up in the morning and nibbled non-stop onsomething or the other until he slept at night. He ate when he went out and ate again when he come back home. He talked of eating and he listened about nothing, but eating. He was a maniac of eating.

Both his mother and wife were worried for his craving for food.

Regardless of what and when he ate, he always felt like he was starving and unfulfilled.

On one occasion his mother went to see her sister in a nearby village.

Chilli’s wife bore the yoke of feeding Chilli in his mother’s absence.

She prepared breakfast in a large quantity that could suffice four normal grown-up persons.  But it was Chilli who consumed the entire foodstuff all by himself leaving nothing for his wife to eat.

Above all Chilli asked her just after a short while to serve him lunch though it was not even noontime.

She was so much goaded of cooking and serving all the time that she bluntly refused him.

Agitated wife: “ I am sorry I just can’t cook and serve ceaselessly. When getting married I thought I’ll have to prepare food for just two people, you and your mother. But now it seems that I have nothing to do but to cook and feed the empty pitcher with a hole. Whatever poured in vanishes.”

“All the time you are demanding.  It would be better if you cook your self.” Said the wife.

Chilli in a warning tone: “ Think it again! In the past I cooked in the month of Ramzan and the result was the kitchen getting blazed. It might happen again if I cook now. The whole house may burn down along with the kitchen. Where will you reside then?”

The determined wife said: “ May the kitchen be on fire or the house burn into ashes, I don’t care. I am not going to cook any more.”

Chilli beseeching and flattering swayed her to cook.  Eventually she cooked lunch. Setting the table she sat beside him to eat also.
